Long Reef Boardriders Association is a non profit incorporated association established in 1973, nurturing and developing board riders of all ages. Longy Boardriders has re-established itself as community based board riders club, attracting members from as young 4 years of age to competitors over 60 years of age.
As part of our local development and objective, we encourage personal development and increasing skills. Longy Boardriders supports sending those interested members to the local, regional, State and Australian titles and local training for any of our members. Longy Boardriders holds monthly, weekend internal competitions throughout the year and competes in local, state and national competitions
We currently have seven divisions which are:
Open Men & Womens; Masters Over 40’s; Juniors Under 20’s; Cadets Under 16’s; Groms Under 14’s
Micro Groms Under 10 Boys and Under 14 Girls
The Longy Micro Groms is for the younger kids (Boys 12 and under and Girls) who wish to experience competition surfing in a very relaxed, social and fun environment. The kids are introduced to the competition format of heat identification, coloured vests, timed heats and judging. As we are entering a new season, it’s important to understand the basics.
Longy Boardriders provides an environment for the kids to surf and enjoy themselves in. The surf can be a fun place but also a very dangerous place. Before the kids pull on a coloured rashie we need to understand the kids can:
Swim in the surf
Have an understanding of boardriding
Have mum / dad / guardian in the surf
Is Mum / Dad / guardian capable in the surf
If you don’t feel you can tick all the boxes above, then before you join Longy Boardriders undertake the SurfGrom program via Surfing Australia or Manly Surf School.
SurfGroms develops a proficiency in surfing that kids can enjoy and embrace for a lifetime, and offer youngsters an opportunity to have fun at the beach whilst developing strong ocean awareness and beach safety skills at a very influential period in their lives. If you are unsure don't risk it go to SurfGroms.

Longy Boardriders conducts free training sessions for its members, usually on Thursday afternoons from October to March. We hold local northern beaches inter club competitions, such as initiating and hosting the Battle of the Lagoons competition as well as competing in other local events. Importantly in November 2010, we created and held the inaugural God’s Country Team Titles for all the Sydney northern beaches surfing clubs.
Longy Boardriders interacts with the local community through a structured program of training and local competitions, including national events such as national events the Jim Beam Global Surftag and the Rhythm Kirra Teams Challenge.
